Nassau, Bahamas - Garvin Tynes Primary school is continuing its standard of excellence as set by its school patron, veteran educator Garvin Jervis Tynes, (1922-1997) who was often referred to by colleagues as an educator "par-excellence". Under the current leadership of Principal Mrs. Naressa Hart since 2007, the school has maintained it's standard of students who strive for success.
In the Southwestern District Spelling Bee, students captured the first and second place prizes. They are the District Religious Education Speech Competition winners and they placed second in the Healthy Heart competition this year.
Principal Hart lauded her students for winning the District as well as the National Science Championships. Garvin Tynes Primary School was awarded the top prize for the Primary School Cleanest Campus - they were the overall winners. In sports, the boys team placed second in boys' soccer, second in boys' baseball, and third in girls soccer.
Ms. Hart points to the hard work and dedication of the teachers at Garvin Tynes for the students success. However, the successful programs they have introduced to involve parents in their children's school lives cannot be overlooked. For example, more than 90 percent of the students' parents showed up at the school on Valentines Day to show the kids how much they are loved. Hosting regular and exciting PTA meetings have also helped to boost parent participation, which ultimately translates in the present successes of the students.
